FAQs

Who are our partners?

BEDCT identify and form partnerships with established NGOs already working in areas where many families live in poverty, lacking basic essentials such as food, water, healthcare and education. Our partners are all registered non-profit organizations with a minimum of 3 years of working with poor, excluded, and/or vulnerable communities for the purpose of alleviating poverty or reducing their vulnerability.

What can I expect as a sponsor?

When you sponsor a child, you have the opportunity to help change the life of a child, their family and community. When you sign up to child sponsorship, you will receive:

  • A picture folder with photo and details of your sponsored child, including information about their family.
  • Annual progress report on your sponsored child, with an updated photo and information on their health, education and community progress.
  • The choice of a regular online newsletter updating you on our partners' work.

You will also have the chance to build a personal relationship with your child through exchange of letters and photos.

How long is my sponsorship duration?

Ideally, sponsoring a child goes on for several years, through the duration of the community development project. Sometimes, it may take 10 to 15 years to achieve the community’s goals.

When you sponsor a child, you are not locked into a contract of any kind. We understand that your financial circumstances may change over time and if you are unable to make your regular contributions, we can assist you with a range of options.

Sometimes, changes in a child’s circumstances may bring an end to the sponsorship, such as when the child’s family moves away from the project area. In such instances, BEDCT will find out why and explain the situation to you. We will also help find another child for you to sponsor.

Can I become a sponsor if I am under 18 years old?

Sponsoring a child is an ongoing financial commitment of $30 a month. Some young people are unable to afford this amount without parental assistance. BEDCT does not wish to place a financial burden on young people or their families. If you are under 18 and would like to sponsor a child, please confirm the decision with your parent or guardian first.

How many children can I sponsor?

Each sponsored child can only have one sponsor. However, you can sponsor as many children as you wish. Many sponsors select a child the same age as their own child. This gives their child an opportunity to learn about the life of a child growing up in a developing country.

Can I visit my sponsored child?

We believe that a visit to your sponsored child and their community is a rewarding way to see the benefits of your contributions. Please contact us at sponsor@benemdangcota.com if you would like to visit your sponsored child.

Can I bring a sponsored child to my country?

BEDCT will not organize adoption or facilitate visits by your child to your country. Most sponsored children live with their families. We believe your help to improve their prospects for survival, quality of life and self-reliance in their own countries and cultures has deeper value than moving them to a foreign country.

Are sponsorship contributions tax-deductible?

BEDCT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, registered in the United States. Sponsorship contributions over $5.00 are tax-deductible. You will receive an annual contribution summary for taxation purposes. For those sponsors outside the United States, please contact us directly regarding the tax-deductibility status of your contribution.

Can I send gifts to my sponsored child?

Please do not send parcels to your child. Although it is a great feeling to send gifts of things they could never afford, you can imagine the sadness when one child receives a parcel and others don't. In addition, these parcels can incur customs and delivery costs, which must be paid by BEDCT. These administrative costs can end up being higher than the value of the gift.
